Local #oilspill and beach updates
Jun. 16th, 2010 04:02 pmThe beach is coated with tar balls that are melting from the heat to a gooey mass along the shoreline. The oil is washing into the first wrack line and in the sargassum (grass/weed) that is washed up on the beach.
Steve saw this loon today (pic attached), but it kept going back in the water every time anyone would get close. There is a turtle stake marking the location of where this loon is hanging out around 2.0W. Apparently the workers there have seen it for the past few days. It is definitely oiled.
Turtle crawls have been found as well as two nests.
