J&J’s Adventure 1
May. 15th, 2011 07:34 pmWe left the house this morning about 8am, as we’d hoped to. Had to stop quite a few times for Jim to get up and stretch.
Traffic was not too bad, and weather was execellent.
The girls: Cody rode with me, and Jim tried to have Baylee ride with him. Did not work out well. She started out just fine, but then tired to crawl in under his feet at one point so got banished to the car with me. When we are towing the Toaster I’ll be in there to make sure she doesn’t do that, but as of now she’s banished from the motor home when it is on the road.
We’re in Callahan, FL not far from Jacksonville, but still in the middle of bloody nowhere. Small campground with trees and grassy sites. It even has roosters nearby which might piss me off in the morning.
We travelled for about six hours and decided that was really a bit long. Tomorrow though we’re scheduled to travel a considerably shorter distance so hopefully won’t end up so tired.
Zatarain’s Blackened Chicken Alfredo and garlic bread for dinner, and a couple of nice cold beers.
Tomorrow heading for South Carolina.
Land Yacht Soon to Launch
May. 14th, 2011 02:27 pmLooks like we will be heading out on our first adventure with the RV on Sunday morning. A few things still to do. Like a few more things to go in the freezer, in the refrigerator. Also need to load a few chairs (zero gravity lounge chairs).
Jim saw his doc on Thursday about his surgery. Doc approved travel plans but wants Jim to stop after every hour or so to take a break and walk around. We’ll see how well Jim listens….
I’ll be driving the Toaster (slang for a Scion xB which looks like one). We are supposed to pick up a dolly in North Carolina and then can tow the Toaster, at which point it becomes a Toad rather than a Toaster. (Toad = RV speak for vehicles towed behind motor homes.)
At this point we plan to stop inside Florida, somewhere near Jacksonville. That’ll be six hours, and long enough for Jim to drive the beast. Next stop after that will be South Carolina near Santee Lakes. Then we should arrive in North Carolina the next day, if all goes well.
I’ll try to do updates fairly frequently. Have smart phones and will take laptops along. Most RV campgrounds have wifi these days so hopefully I’ll get on line fairly frequently.
Everyone else have a great couple of weeks.
