This morning Jim, on turtle patrol, found his first nest of the season. A loggerhead turtle that apparently couldn't make her mind up where to put the nest. He's very excited.

He's got a lot more pictures, but Goddess knows when he'll update his journal...

You can tell what kind of turtle by the crawl marks. How wide it is, how the flippers mark the sand, and how the tail marks the center of the crawl. The mound is where they start looking to find a sign of actual eggs. He did find eggs. There are false nests too, so they want to know if it is a real nest or not.

Then they mark the nest with warning signs to keep the tourists and locals away from it, until the eggs hatch.  They'll watch it for signs of little ones running madly toward the water.
