I had a banner month. For me. I’m a slow reader, okay?
1. Retribution Falls by Chris Wooding. Great great fun. Steampunk air pirates. Definitely has a Firefly vibe going on, at first it seemed maybe too much but then it flared off and got much much better. Eager to see the follow on. I especially like the demonology used for magical stuff.
2. Magyk – Angie Sage It’s a kids book and shows. Awfully predictable but sweet and fun read. I doubt I’ll read more in the series though.
3. Heartless – Gail Carriger “Follow that porcupine!” Yes, as usual the vampires are trying to kill our Alexia. Lots of fun in this one, and Gail is back on form. Alexia is her usual mad self. I especially liked that by the end Alexia is definitely facing some consequences from her decisions, generally, as is usual for her, made without thinking them through.
4. A Dance with Dragons – George RR Martin Oh so many spoilers here, its hard to know what is safe to say. Cliffhangers of course, sharp twists and turns, confusion galore, plots even more complicated, and we still don’t know what the hell the maesters are up to. Please George, don’t make us wait 6 years for the next one!
