So here in the states this is a big weekend, with Memorial Day falling on Monday. It officially marks the start of summer for us.
So, we are having a party on Saturday. 25-30 folks invited, we'll see how many actually show up.
On the menu: oysters grilled in ramekins with horseradish, hotsauce, butter and parmesan cheese on them, and the main thing: a crawfish boil.
If you don't know what that is, let me tell you. We have this, well, essentially LARGE bunsen burner that we put out in deck. We have a stand that goes over it and a huge deep pot. Into the pot you put tons of really really hot spices, and the shrimp or crawfish. Also, cooked in the same water, so the favors all mix are: small new potatoes, pearl onions, ears of fresh corn, and sausage. Needless to say since the timing is different for things, the veggies go in first, and the crawfish last.
Once done, the whole mess is drained out onto a tray and everyone helps themselves to however much they want.
Also, most folks like to bring a dish so there will be plenty of appetizers and snacks, and I'm doing a big pot of baked beans.
Alas, we have a storm in the gulf so the entire weekend is forcast to be crappy with 30mph winds and 80 percent chance of rain. So, unless things change, we'll back the cars out of the garage and set up the party there, rather than on the back porch and decking where we'd get soaked and blown away, even without the beer kegs assistance.
So... I've been promised I don't have to do too much since this was the idea of two friends, who promise to do it all. Uh Huh. We'll see.
I always wonder how come, then, the parties are always at OUR house and not THEIR house...
