It’s been exactly a week since we left home. Spent Saturday at Mom’s having a cookout.  His entire immediate family was here, Mom, Sheila, Sammie and Diane.  Not to mention assorted spouses and nephews and friends.

Cooled off enough by 6pm to be comfortable.  Only down side was we had a zillion flies.

Earlier in the day, Jim and I went off on another adventure. We borrowed his uncle’s truck to go pick up a dolly to put the toaster on to haul it around.

Well, the truck… It was interesting. The gas gauge didn’t work (Uncle: “When the needle starts jumping back and forth, you know it needs gas.”  Uhm…)  The passenger seat was sprung so I sank down into it feeling like some little kid.  The gas pedal didn’t have a pedal. It was just a tiny round bit of metal to put your foot on.  No side mirror.  I was relieved no cops stopped us for safety violations.

We got the dolly but then when we got it home, discovered the toaster couldn’t get up on it because the front bumper was too low. So Jim and his brother Sammie removed the lower bumper and then fiddled with the dolly to add some wooden slats and that let them get it up onto the dolly.  Then Jim had to remove the rear tow assembly so the back end wouldn’t drag. At any rate, it is now workable for when we pull out of here so I won’t have to drive too.

Today, we are supposed to cook out again here, and then go to a birthday party this evening. Not sure I’ll be energetic enough for that one!  I was pretty tired after all the family stuff yesterday, which I, as a member of a small family, find rather exhausting.
