So... Survived. Barely.
Precinct was crazy busy all day. We had ONE break all day, but everyone did get a chance to take a lunch break as I had one extra worker bee, so we could fill in as each poll worker took their breaks. That made it bearable.
Voted 885 folks, one provisional ballot, a SLEW of spoiled ballots (when a voter over-votes a race or otherwise makes a mark on his ballot that makes it unreadable by the scanner), and a TON of address changes, voters who'd requested an absentee and then changed to wanting to vote on Tuesday.
Most of my poll workers were good with one problem child who did not take directions. I gave up on her. It was like talking to fudge. She'd nod and say she'd do it correctly and within 30 minutes I'd hear her doing it wrong again. Sigh.
Jim tells me I was a hit with the poll workers since they'd complained about their last clerk. I seem to have been calmer and saner than she was when it got dicey. Which is good I guess.
Still, I feel I did not do as good a job as I should have. It took us an hour to close, when the powers that be wanted it to be done in a half hour. But since we had to review every single ballot searching for write-ins not done properly, there was simply no way. When I turned my equipment, ballots and supplies in I was at least relieved to hear we weren't the slowest. I suppose that is a victory of a sort.
Anyway. I hope the regular clerk from that precinct gets back on the job soon and doesn't find I'd stepped on her toes.
Oh, and have to say that the pastor of the church that hosts the precinct was a sweetheart. He came by and asked us if there was anything we needed several times and even donated some bottled water to us, to help keep us going.
Other than that, I hate the outcomes in our Florida races. Oh well. I can't say I'm surprised.
Now, back to NaNoWriMo
